Timor-Leste Partnership Project

**The ACT Government through the Dollars for Dili Campaign and Dubbo South Rotary Club have each contributed $10,000 which made the 2011 Timor-Leste Partnership Project possible. Scouts Australia thanks them for their generous support**

** Significant progress is now being made to assist the growth and development of Scouting in Timor Leste. A South Australian Rover, Kathy Radoslovich, has now settled into Dili, with Uniao Nacional Dos Escuteiros De Timor Leste (Timor Leste Scouting). As part of the Federal Government’s Australian Youth Ambassadors For Development (AYAD) program, Kathy is helping establish their National Office, including national policies and procedures and to plan their inaugural membership census. We are now developing an AYAD placement opportunity to continue Kathy’s good work when she returns home early next year.  Scouts Australia developed a partnership with the ACT Government and Rotary, Rotaract and Rovers in Australia and Timor-Leste to support the construction of health and sanitation facilities in Dili, in July 2011. This was a pilot program with a view to developing an ongoing partnership where Rovers, through Scouts Australia, and with support from Rotary, Rotaract and the Centenary of Canberra, can be directly involved in making a difference for young people in developing countries, particularly Timor-Leste.

The Rotary Club of Dubbo South provided $10,000 and the ACT Government, through its “Dollars for Dili” program, part of the Centenary of Canberra celebrations, donated a seed grant of $10,000. The construction involved building sanitation facilities in a selected school in Dili.

In 2011 the selected primary school was Aimutin Escola Primária, in East Timor’s capital Dili. 

IMAGINE a primary school where 1,119 students attend in shifts so that everyone can learn – in only eight classrooms.
