National Rover Council Chair
Mr Shaun Sandilands
Shaun Sandilands, known to his peers as 'Super Scout', because of his extensive volunteering with Scouts, began his Scouting career as a Scout with Everton Park Scout Group. From there he moved onto Grovely Scout Group where he stayed until the end of Venturers in 2005. Shaun embarked as a Rover in early 2005 with the Gap Rover Crew. He stayed here for a few years, before joining a newly formed crew called “Brisbane Inner City”, of which he was one of the founding members. Unfortunately during the January 2011 floods in Brisbane, the Brisbane Inner City Rover Den was completely submerged, forcing the Crew to merge with the Taringa Milton Toowong Scout Group (TMT) in late 2011. Shaun is now continuing Rovering with the TMT Scout Group located in Brisbane’s inner west.
During Shaun’s time in Rovers he has made numerous contributions to Scouting and been on many committees. Shaun was the Public Relations Co-ordinator for Agoonoree Scout Camp (2005-2011); Queensland Branch Rover Executive (QBRE) Promotions Officer (2007-2009); Banana Bash Committee member (2005-2010); Urban Challenge Chairman (2008); St Georges Ball Chairman (2009); Queensland Contingent Leader “Oz Moot” (2008-2011); and the Promotions Director for Brisbane Gang Show (2009-2011). He was also the Queensland Branch Rover Deputy Chairman, Chairman and been part of the Queensland Branch Council. In addition he was a cast member and representative for the last two years at the Brisbane Scout Show “Wonargo Revue”. Currently Shaun also holds a role with the AJ2013 Organising Committee as the Marketing and Communications Assistant Director (Media). He is also working towards his Rover Wood Badge as well as his Baden Powell Scout Award.
Shaun began at the National Rover Council (NRC) in 2009 as an observer. Since then he was promoted to Delegation Leader for Queensland twice and most recently held the position as the NRC Vice Chairman in 2011. Shaun is very excited and honoured to hold his current role as the NRC Chairman and looks forward to working with the Rovers of Australia and creating a better tomorrow.
